Stella Cho, MS1 (she/hers)

Stella is a first-year medical student at Pritzker, and is so excited to meet everyone! She is originally from the sunny suburbs of LA and came to the Midwest for college, graduating from the University of Notre Dame last year. At the moment, she is exploring different surgical specialties and is interested in ENT and orthopedics. APAMSA has been a meaningful, amazing community to meet friends, connect with physicians, and bond over food and fun events! In her free time, she loves to sing with the STEM grad student acapella group, bake treats, and spend time with friends.

Alia Abiad, MS1 (she/her)

Alia is a first-year who was born in the Philippines and grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. She majored in Comparative Literature at Harvard and is now overjoyed to be back in her favorite city. She is currently interested in primary care and geriatrics. In her free time, she loves spending time outdoors, reading, playing board games, and cooking (if you ever want a home-cooked meal, reach out to her!).

Lauren Sheu, MS1 (she/her)

Lauren is originally from the California Bay Area, and she studied Cell & Molecular Biology at Duke. Apart from APAMSA, Lauren co-directs the Bridgeport Free Clinic and conducts research in cancer immunology. She is passionate about improving health outcomes for cancer patients through translational research efforts and community-facing initiatives, and Lauren is considering applying into internal medicine. When not in class, you can find her being humbled by UChicago pub trivia, watching tv, or hunting down the best Taiwanese food in the Chicagoland area.

Cynthia Zhang, MS1 (she/her)

Originally from Sudbury, Cynthia was born and raised in College Station, TX. She went to Washington University in St. Louis for undergrad and majored in anthropology. She took a few years off to get degree in American Sign Language interpreting and worked in a breast cancer research lab. She’s interested in surgery of all kinds, though she’s leaning toward something like trauma. In her free time, she likes playing Pokémon Go and cuddling her Pomeranian pup Toastie!

Woorin Jang, MS1 (she/her)

Woorin’s current hometown is Fairfax, Virginia, but she’s also called many cities in Korea and Canada her home as well : ) She’s a UChicago undergrad so hit her up if you want some deets on the campus and what it’s like to be in this city! She’s very open to any specialty. Outside of school, she’s an avid slimer, ballet dancer, consumer of epic fantasy and all sorts of board games.

Hecong Qin, MS1 (he/him)

Hecong is from China and the Bay Area. Before Pritzker, he completed my Ph.D. in Bioengineering at UC Berkeley and UCSF. At Pritzker, he serves as a class representative to the identity and inclusion (i2i) committee and as a patient communication coordinator for the Bridgeport Free Clinic (and APAMSA, of course!). He’s interested in surgery, medical technology, and basic science research.

Francesca Chu, MS1 (she/her)

Francesca is from Ithaca, NY, and attended UChicago for undergrad, where she majored in biology and math. She is especially interested in internal medicine and pediatrics. In her free time, she loves to cook, read, and explore Chicago!

Emma He, MS1 (she/her)

Emma is a first year who grew up in Singapore and attended Rice University for college. She’s interested in global health and is part of the Graduate Program in Health Administration and Policy at UChicago. Apart from APAMSA, Emma also co-directs the Psychiatric Free Clinic at Maria Shelter and is involved in health services and global health research. In her free time, she enjoys taking long walks by Lake Michigan and exploring the food and arts scenes here in Chicago.
